New Delhi:
The Commonwealth Games beginning Sunday will be biggest ever with
6,700 athletes and officials participating, the organisers
announced Friday.
"After the completion of the Delegation Registration Meetings, we
can say that more than 6,700 athletes and team officials will be
taking part in Delhi 2010," Organising Committee secretary general
Lalit Bhanot said.
"We are pleased that Delhi 2010 will be the biggest ever
Commonwealth Games," he said in a statement.
Bhanot said sportspersons and officials from all 71 nations and
territories of the Commonwealth will take part in the Games.
"More than 5,800 athletes and officials have already arrived in
Delhi. With more arrivals scheduled in the coming days, Delhi 2010
is well on the way to becoming the biggest in history," Bhanot
said.
The 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games saw the participation of
5,766 athletes and officials, he said.
"We are now looking forward to the successful and smooth delivery
of the Games," Bhanot said.
