Bangalore:
Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa Thursday won the second
confidence motion in the state assembly with his Bharatiya Janata
Party (BJP) crossing the halfway mark of 105 by one vote.
The ruling BJP won 106 votes as against 100 by the opposition. The
strength of the 225-member house that includes one nominated was
reduced to 208 after 16 legislators were disqualified.
The Congress with 73 members and the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S)
with 28 legislators attended the one-day special session despite
threatening to boycott the proceedings. A flip-flop Congress
reversed its boycott decision at the 11th hour.
It was the second trust vote in the assembly in a week. The chief
minister had won the first confidence motion Monday amid chaotic
scenes and confusion.
