Malegaon:
With the release of the first list of Hajis September 10, the
government finally began allotments of Hajis from its reserved
quota. The allotment was reportedly delayed due to the petition
filed in the Kerala High Court against the Government Haj Quota.
"On Friday, the government released
the first list of Hajis from its reserved quota having the names
of 4, 140 applicants", Hajj Committee CEO Abbasa Muqadam revealed
to the media.
Names of the selected hajis are
displayed on the websites of Ministry of External Affairs and Hajj
Committee of India, Muqadam added.
The Hajj Committee has requested
these Hajis to report on or before September 25 with their
Passports, Bank deposit slips and other related documents.
Muqadam also informed that the Hajis
going to Hajj from Government quota will be given accommodations
at Azeeziya.
The government every year keeps a
quota of 11,000 hajis reserved with itself. The allotments from
this quota are generally made on the recommendations of the
Ministers, MPs and other High level Government officials. This
year the allotments from this list was delayed due to the petition
filed in the Kerala High Court saying, the government should not
keep such quota.
Earlier, due to the overwhelming
number of applicants wishing to go to Hajj in 2010, the government
has demanded from its Saudi Arabian counterpart to allot an
additional quota of 25,000 Hajis to India. The concerned Ministry
in Saudi Arabia, however, agreed to allot an additional quota of
10, 000 Hajis. Even after this additional quota, there remain
large number of people who could not go to Haj this year as they
could not find their names in the list.
Every year, more than 3.5 million
Muslims from all across the world go to Saudi Arabia to perform
Hajj. The Saudi Government has allotted quotas for various
countries. From India, a total of 1,25,000 hajis will perform the
Hajj.
