New Delhi: Indian
sociology is distinguished by its grounding in Indian reality and
the diversity in its scope of research, Vice President Hamid
Ansari said here Sunday.
"Indian sociology is distinguished by its grounding in Indian
reality and the diversity in its scope of research. Great names
like G.S. Ghurye and M.N. Srinivas have been associated with it.
Today, it is a subject of study and research in over 50
universities and in many research institutes," Ansari said.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the Diamond Jubilee
Conference of Indian Sociological Society at Jawaharlal Nehru
University.
He pointed out that as societies struggle to respond to challenges
of inequalities, they call upon sociologists to decipher the
problem and suggest remedies.
