Nagpur: A belligerent
opposition disrupted proceedings in the Maharashtra assembly
Monday, leading to three adjournments in the first half of the
day.
Uproarious scenes were witnessed when Chief Minister Prithviraj
Chavan was scheduled to move a condolence resolution as opposition
members demanded a discussion on the issues of farmers in the
state seeking Rs.6,000 minimum support price for their produce.
Speaker Dilip Walse-Patil adjourned the house for an hour till
noon when Chavan tabled the condolence resolution paying respects
to former members of the house.
Immediately after the condolence resolution was passed, the
Opposition again demanded a discussion on the issue of cotton
prices. Some members brought cotton inside the house and gifted it
to Chavan and created ruckus, leading to another adjournment for
10 minutes.
When it re-assembled many opposition members stormed to the
speaker's podium and raised slogans. Deputy Speaker Vasant Purke
who was presiding, adjourned the house for half an hour.
Opposition members like Sardar Tara Singh, Sanjay Kute, Girish
Mahajan, Harish Pimple, Sudhir Parve, Atul Deshkar went to the
podium and threw cotton balls towards the Chair.
However, as the noisy scenes continued unabated in the house, the
Deputy Speaker Purke finally adjourned it for the day.
