Panaji: The dates for
the assembly elections in Goa, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand
and Manipur would be decided within the "next few days", Chief
Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi said Friday.
Quraishi, along with the two other election commissioners V.S.
Sampath and H.S. Brahma, was in Goa to review poll preparedness
for the forthcoming state assembly polls.
"We have completed our tours and we have taken suggestions on
holding of the polls. Next few days we will sit together,
negotiate, discuss on various points," he said, adding that school
examinations, farming schedules, availability of armed forces were
factors which would be considered before announcing the poll
dates.
The poll panel chief refused to disclose whether the elections in
the five states would be held together or in a staggered manner.
