Bhopal: Two days after
a girl, alleging rape by the nephew of a Madhya Pradesh
legislator, went on a hunger strike to protest lack of action in
the case, the accused was arrested Tuesday after a court rejected
his anticipatory bail plea.
A minor girl had accused Dhanmendra Singh, nephew of ruling
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Yashpal Sisodia, of raping
her on June 30, 2010.
"After the court reject his bail, we arrested him today
(Tuesday)," Mandsaur's Additional Superintendent of Police Pankaj
Srivastava told IANS.
Meanwhile, the condition of the girl, sitting on a hunger strike
since Sunday in Mandsaur, 350 km from Bhopal, deteriorated and she
was admitted to the district hospital.
The girl, around 16 years old, had said that on June 30, 2010 she
was raped by Dhanmendra and she had lodged a case against him too.
But as police took no action had taken on her complaint lodged six
months back but instead lodged cases against her and sent her to
jail thrice, she decided to go on a hunger strike.
"I have been sent to jail for raising the rape issue. I have tried
to meet Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Mandsaur and in
Bhopal but police did not let me meet him," the girl alleged.
