Aligarh: Mr. Abu Affan Farooquee student of BA-LLB (Final) year has been elected President of the Aligarh Muslim University Students’ Union in the elections held yesterday. Mr. Syed Umer Ahmad Qadri student of BA has been declared as Vice President and Mr. Aamir Qutub, B.Tech. (F) as declared elected as Honorary Secretary of the Students’ Union. The results of the Students’ Union were declared early today by the Chief Election Officer, Prof. Mursaleen.
 

For the post of President, Vice President and Honorary Secretary seven candidates were in fray for each of the three posts. The polling was held yesterday for ten cabinet members to the AMU Students’ Union. Mr. Shibanur Rahmn, MA (P), a visually challenged candidate secured the highest vote and declared as Senior Cabinet. Miss Maryam Zehra of BA (F) of the Women’s College elected as a Cabinet member. Twenty six members were in fray for the Cabinet. Sultan Ahmad Khan, Saleem Mohammed Khan, Rizwan Ahmad, Jamal Akhtar, Mohd. Yasir Siddiqui, Masoom Raza, Mohamad Sarfaraz Rasmally and Haider Khan also declared elected.

The election of the AMU Students’ Union was held as per the recommendations of the Lyngdoh Committee.

The Election of the eleven representatives of students of the University Court were also held yesterday and the Chief Election Officer has announced the results. Sixty four candidates, in all, contested the elections for the University Court. Mr. Shujauddin Khan from the Faculty of Theology and Agricultural Sciences, Mr. Nafees Ahmad from the Faculty of Social Sciences, Mohd. Saleem Khan, Faculty of Arts, Mr. Mohd. Junaid Ahmad, Faculty of Commerce, Mr. Ahmad Neyaz Khan, Faculty of Science, Mr. Mohammad Akram, Faculty of Life Science, Mr. Farhan Husain Zaidi, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Mr. Javed Akhtar, Faculty of Law, Mr. Nawalur Rehman Khan, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Mr. Nadir Waquar Ayubi, Faculty of Medicine and Mr. Syed Tabish Sultan, Faculty of Management Studies and Research were declared elected.

The whole process of election from filling of nominations to campaigning, voting, counting and result declaration is done in festive and peaceful atmosphere.
