Kiev:
A Ukrainian court Thursday released on parole a student held for
frying eggs and sausages on an eternal flame commemorating
soldiers who died in World War II.
Bratstvo (Brotherhood) nationalist party member Anna Sinkova, 20,
was arrested in March after she fried eggs and sausages in Kiev's
Park of Glory in protest against the large sums spent by the
government to maintain the monument.
"For 53 years, a precious natural gas has been aimlessly burned
out near the Obelisk of Glory in Kiev," the Bratstvo party said on
its website. "This pleasure costs taxpayers about 300,000 hryvnias
($37,000) a month. And this is only one of hundreds, if not
thousands of eternal flames across the country."
Under the parole conditions, Sinkova is not allowed to leave
Ukraine.
