Shootout chain reconstructed in Gujarat court

Sunday July 10, 2011 08:16:15 AM, IANS

Gandhinagar: A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) Saturday reconstructed the chain of suspected staged shootout of Tulsi Prajapati by Gujarat Police in 2006 in Banaskantha district.

Prajapati, a close associate of 2005 staged shootout victim Sohrabuddin Sheikh, was killed near Chhapri village Dec 28, 2006.

He is believed to have witnessed Sheikh's killing in a staged shootout by police earlier.

Police told court that Prajapati escaped from their custody while being taken back to Rajasthan after a court hearing in Ahmedabad. He was gunned down near Chhapri village after a chase by police.

Following a petition by Narmada Bai, Prajapati's mother, the case was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by the Supreme Court.

The CBI told the apex court that Prajapati's killing was a sequel to that of Sohrabuddin Sheikh.

A Supreme Court-supervised investigation into Sheikh's stage shootout killing has seen over a dozen police officers, besides former minister Amit Shah, land behind bars.
