Malegaon: Imam of Masjid Al-Haram, the Grand Mosque in Makkah, Dr Abdul Rahman As-Sudias, who is on a short visit to India, was accorded historic welcome on his arrival at the Jamiat Ahle Hadees headquarter in Delhi  March 27.

 

"Dr As-Sudais reached the Jamiat Ahle-Hadees headquarter at Okhla, few kmtrs to New Delhi, at 04:00 in the afternoon. But a huge number of people including women and children gathered here to greet him long before his arrival", Jamiat Ahle Hadees office secretary, Mohammad Ahmed Salafi, said to ummid.com on phone.

 

At Jamiat Ahle Hadees headquarter, Dr As-Sudais was received by the president of Jamiat Ahle-Hadees Hind Hafiz Mohd Yahya, Gen Secretary Asghar Ali Imam Mehdi and Rector of Jamia Salafia Banaras Dr. Abdullah Saud.

 

"Others who were present at the site included a host of state jamiat leaders, who had specially traveled from Haryana, Rajasthan, Kerala, Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat to New Delhi to greet Dr As-Sudais", Ahmed Salafi said.

 

Immediately after reaching the Jamiat Ahle Hadees Complex at Okhla, Dr. As-Sudais led the Asr prayers. Thousands of people including men, women and children offered the prayer with Dr. As-Sudais.

 

"The entire complex, buildings near the vicinity and streets adjoining the complex all were packed. People offered prayers wherever they found a place", Ahmed Salafi added.

 

In an unprecedented gesture, Dr As-Sudais himself offered to recite the verses from the Holy Quran to inaugurate the welcome function organised in his honour.

 

Later, he laid the foundation stone of an auditorium-cum-cultural centre at the Jamiat Ahle Hadees complex.

 

Dr. As-Sudais is in India since March 24 on the invitation of Jamiatul Ulema-e-Hind. During his stay in the country, he also visited Darul Uloom Deoband, Jamate Islami Hind's New Delhi Office and also addressed the conference organised by Jamiatul Ulema-e-Hind.

 

Besides meeting Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad, who hosted a dinner in his honour on March 24, Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and Congress MP Mohammad Azharuddin, Dr As-Sudais also had a meeting with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on the same day.
