New Delhi: Bathed in
saffron and green, the Ramlila ground and the roads leading to it
were Sunday dotted with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) flags and
Advani masks as leader L.K. Advani concluded his 40-day 'Jan
Chetna Yatra'.
The ground was flooded with supporters, mostly party workers,
donning saffron BJP caps, chanting pro-BJP and anti-Congress
slogans, and time to time breaking into "vande-mataram" and "Bharat
mata ki jai".
Some were even seen donning Advani-masks, while one supporter was
curiously sporting a garland of vegetables.
A saffron and green coloured stage stood tall with the Dargah
Faizi Ilahi mosque of old Delhi in its background.
The crowd, came in groups holding banners against price rise,
corruption and the Congress-led government.
Advani's rath, also decorated with orange and green flowers,
stopped right in front of the stage.
The nationalist songs lent a patriotic feel to the atmosphere and
the crowd got super-charged as veteran leader Venkaiyah Naidu took
a round.
"We are here tired of price rise, and we support BJP," said Ramesh
Gupta, a small grocery store owner from Karol Bagh.
"It's difficult to run a home, every thing is expensive and we
want some relief," said Lakshmi, a housewife from Old Delhi who
was at the ground with her neighbours and family members.
Priti, who came from east Delhi, naively revealed she was "asked
to come", but almost on a cue from a friend, added: "We are
against black money and corruption."
