Bangladesh speaker, MPs to pay income tax

Monday November 28, 2011 09:32:54 PM, IANS

Dhaka: The Bangladesh cabinet decided Monday to make it mandatory for the parliament speaker, deputy speaker and MPs to pay taxes on their remuneration.

The cabinet approved the drafts of "Speaker and Deputy Speaker (Remuneration and Privileges) Act, 2011" and "Members of The Parliament (Remuneration and Privileges) Act, 2011" at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Daily Star reported.

The drafts will now be sent to the parliament for discussion. After a review by the scrutiny committee, the related bills will be tabled in the house, officials said.
