Top seed Shaikh Abdullah survived a close call while defeating
Sumit Nagal 7-6 (5), 6-4 en route to the boys singles semi-finals
of the Indian Oil Servo ITF Junior tennis tournament here
Thursday.
After taking the first set on tie-break, Abdullah saw off a break
of serve by breaking back. He broke Nagal in the eighth game to
take a decisive step forward and eventually win the contest.
Competition in the girls' singles quarterfinals was equally fierce
with three of the matches going into the third set. National clay
court under-18 runner-up Shweta Rana was taken the distance by
Vaishnavi Reddy and saw off a first set loss to advance to the
semi-finals.
