New Delhi:
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Saturday flagged off a solar
car developed by students of Delhi Technological University (DTU)
for participating in the 2011 World Solar Challenge in Australia
next month.
The World Solar Challenge attracts innovative designs of solar
vehicles from the best of technical universities and colleges.
Powered by multi-crystalline solar cells and capable of generating
1 KW solar electricity, the Delhi students' vehicle can attain a
top speed of 85 kmph. Its efficient LED lighting systems reduce
energy loss.
"With the increasing pressure of rising cost of crude oil, the
automotive industry in India should turn towards innovative
solutions such as solar cars, hybrid vehicles and other energy
efficient vehicles in the near future," said DTU Vice Chancellor
P.B. Sharma.
