London:
A woman in France who defied the ban on wearing burqa Thursday
said she would stand against President Nicolas Sarkozy in the next
election.
Kenza Drider, 32, spoke of her candidacy Thursday after attending
a court hearing to support Hind Amas and Najate Nait Ali - who
became the first to be fined for the offence in France.
Amas, also 32, received a fine of 120 euros, while Nait Ali, 36,
received one of 80 euros, Daily Mail reported.
Both were arrested outside the town hall in the Paris suburb of
Meaux May 5 while carrying an almond cake to celebrate the
birthday of the local mayor, Jean-Francois Cope.
Drider will take on Sarkozy as an independent in next year's
general election, the Mail said.
