Mumbai: The interim
report of a two-member commission probing the Adarsh Housing
Society scam in Mumbai was submitted to the Maharashtra government
Friday, official sources said.
The report by the commission, comprising Justice (retd.) J.A.
Patil and former state chief secretary P. Subrahmanyam, was
submitted here in a sealed envelop to the chief secretary.
The scam involves a prime plot in south Mumbai's Colaba
neighbourhood on which a 31-storey building was constructed by the
society.
The report is expected to contain the commission's final findings
on two critical issues, out of total 13, over the building of
Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society in Colaba.
These (two issues) are: the ownership of the plot was allotted to
the Adarsh society, and whether it was meant for housing war
heroes and Kargil conflict's widows.
The interim report followed a plea by the state government in
February, seeking clarifications on these two vital points.
The state government had claimed ownership of the building's plot
which it said was reclaimed from the Arabian Sea in the 1970s.
Disputing the claim, the defence ministry contended that the plot
allotted to Adarsh society had been in its possession since the
past four decades.
The report will be discussed by the state cabinet before any
further steps are taken.
