New Delhi: The
Indian Parliament will celebrate its 60th anniversary May 13,
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said Wednesday.
"There will be special sessions of both the houses May 13. Later,
President Pratibha Patil will address members of both the houses,"
Bansal told reporters.
He clarified that the president will address the members of both
houses in a function and there will be no joint sitting of the two
houses.
"The first session in a calendar year is the joint session of
parliament and is usually addressed by the president," said Bansal.
The first session of Parliament was held May 13, 1952.
