JD-U to go solo in Uttar Pradesh

Wednesday January 04, 2012 11:29:43 PM, IANS

New Delhi: The Janata Dal-United (JD-U), a key BJP ally, Wednesday announced it was going solo in the Feb 4-28 Uttar Pradesh assembly polls after seat-sharing talks with the BJP's top leaders collapsed.

The JD-U also announced its list of candidates for Uttar Pradesh.

Party leader and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) convenor Sharad Yadav announced the first list of candidates for 32 seats for the assembly polls, stating that seat sharing talks with several key BJP leaders had failed.

The party will contest all 403 assembly seats in the state after talks between the party and BJP on seat sharing failed.

"We will contest all the 403 seats in Uttar Pradesh and the list of more candidates will be issued in the coming days," Yadav told reporters.

""We had discussions with several top leaders in BJP like party chief Nitin Gadkari, Sanjay Joshi, Rajnath Singh but unfortunately the talks could not yield any result and they issued the list. So we have now decided to go ahead with our strategy to contest the election," Yadav said.

He however evaded a direct reply on post-poll alliance, stating "those are matters of future".

Yadav had earlier expressed displeasure on BJP inducting Babu Singh Kushwaha, former Uttar Pradesh minister of Bahujan Samaj Party government, an accused in the NRHM scam in the state.
