Chandigarh: A
first-year girl student of law at Haryana's all-women university,
Bhagat Phool Singh Women's University, near Sonipat town has been
hospitalised after alleged gang-rape by four youths, police said
Friday.
The police registered a case of gang-rape Friday against the
youths whom the girl named in her complaint. The girl resides in
one of the girls' hostel on the campus.
In her complaint to the police, the girl alleged that she was
dragged into a Scorpio SUV driven by a youth, Amit, who runs a
canteen on the university campus, and his accomplices Wednesday
afternoon while she was returning from the local market.
She said she was gang-raped by four youths in the vehicle till
Thursday. She was later dumped near the university gate Thursday
evening.
The incident was brought to the notice of university vice
chancellor Pankaj Mittal, who has promised a thorough probe and
action.
Hundreds of students of the university Friday blocked traffic on
the Sonipat-Gohana highway demanding immediate arrest and stern
action against the gang-rape accused.
Police officials said the victim has been admitted to a hospital
and her medical examination has confirmed rape.
The university, the first all-women university in the state, is
located at Khanpur village in Sonipat district, 180 km from
Chandigarh.
