Communal violence in Aakot, 4 killed

Thursday October 25, 2012 06:01:14 PM, ummid.com & Agencies

Aakot (Maharastra): Four persons have been killed and several others have injured in communal violence which erupted in this Maharashtra town near Nagpur. Reports of communal violence have also been reported from Diglur - a town near Nanded.

The deceased have been identified as Yaseen Mohd Eido (70), Zafar Ab Karim (15), Yogesh (35) and Maruti Godhe (38).

Violence in Aakot erupted on Tuesday in the evening. Media reports say 25-30 houses have been set on fire by rioters.

Locals related the violence to an incident that occurred on October 19 when four class IV students reportedly threw some litters in a Dessehra mandal. Angered by the act some people beat the kids and the matter was sorted out.

However, local Shiv Sena MLS lodged a police compliant, following which police detained the four kids but released them after some time.

The MLA was reportedly not satisfied by the police action and he alleged the police of ignoring a "very serious" matter.

On Tuesday in the evening, following some rumors of stone pelting on idol immersion procession, all of sudden, angry mob started pelting stones and indulged in arson and looting.

More than 60 persons have been taken into custody for spreading violence.

In Diglur, a town of Nanded, also communal violence erupted and there are reports of stone pelting on Jama Masjid mosque. Four Muslim youths have been injured in the incident.

Situation in the area is still tense. District SP P Virendra Mishra along with senior officers are camping in the town. Extra force have been deployed to maintain peace in the area.
