Chinese teachers to be tested every five years

Beijing: Teachers in
Chinese business hub Shanghai will be the first in the country to
take five consecutive exams every five years in order to keep
their jobs, a media report said Monday.
The Shanghai Municipal Education Commission (SMEC) has become the
first in China to stop the nationwide one-time certification
system for primary and middle school teachers, the China Daily
reported.
Teachers will have to re-qualify every five years until they have
passed five consecutive tests, said Zhou Jingtai, director of the
SMEC personnel department.
They will be tested on their professional ethics, skills and
quantity of work. Those who fail the exam will not be allowed to
continue teaching.
The new rule will be extended to Beijing, and Gansu and Guangxi
Zhuang provinces.
