The incident took place in the Jansath area of Muzaffarnagar, 495 km from here, when a youth was caught harassing a girl. Her brother and his friend bashed up the alleged molestor and shot him dead, but were themselves lynched by a mob.

Muzaffarnagar's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manjil Saini told IANS that Sachin, a resident of Malakpura village was told by his sister hat a boy named Shahnawaz was harrasing her.

Enraged at this, he, along with a friend, attacked Shahnawaz with a knife and later shot him. As the two tried to flee the crime scene, they were overpowered by the villagers and were beaten to death.
