Sarpanch of Sakadehi Gram Panchayat of Betul District in Madhya
Pradesh received National Award for outstanding performance under
MGNREGA from the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi at a function
organized at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Saturday to mark the
8th MGNREGA Diwas.
Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Jairam Ramesh, Union
Minister of Panchayat and Rural Development, were also present on
the occasion. The National Award has been conferred to 11 Gram
Panchayats of the country.
It is noteworthy that the Sakadehi Gram Panchayat having a
population of only 2136, constructed 14 Kapil Dhara wells under
MGNERA, made available irrigation facility in 17 hectare land and
provided 860 saplings for plantation under Nandan Phalodyan to 8
beneficiaries during the year 2011-12.
Besides, drinking water
facility was provided to 25 families through Nirmal Neer Drinking
Water Wells.
The panchayat developed two sports grounds in the
village to provide sports facility to children.
Apart from this,
20 members women's self help groups have been associated with
plantation activities to create livelihood to them.
Apart from this, transport has been made smooth in the villages
under the Gram Panchayat by constructing CC roads in the village
under Panch Parmeshwar Yojna.
Construction of two gravel roads has
provided better transport facility to people of three villages.
The Panchayat provided 17,131 man-days worth of employment to 304
families, an official release said.
