Dubai:
Saudi Arabia ranks first in the Middle East in terms of technology
spending, announced the International Data Corporation (ICD) in a
press conference on Tuesday.
The IDC, a global market intelligence and advisory firm for the
information technology and telecommunication industries, outlined
their plans for the upcoming Middle East summit on the 18th and
19th of February.
The conference will take place under
the name: ‘Seize the moment: transform, innovate, collaborate.”
Security issues and cyber-attacks were discussed during the
preview press conference, along with the spending of Middle
Eastern countries on technology.
The press conference panel, that
included ICD officials as well as key figures in computer and
security companies in the region, answered questions regarding the
threat of cyber terrorism.
They called for preventive methods
rather than just responsive methods. The soon-to-be held summit,
which was introduced in 2008, will focus heavily on ‘third
platform technologies’ such as smart handheld devices.
Critical issues such as
virtualization, business continuity and resiliency and
collaboration will also be addressed.
