150 global firms vie to hire IIM-B graduates

Wednesday March 13, 2013 09:27:11 PM, IANS

Bangalore: About 150 global firms, including Reliance Industries and HCL Technologies, made 415 lucrative job offers to 381 graduates of the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIM-B) at the campus hiring here.

"The final placement for the 2011-13 batch of post-graduate programme (PGP) saw global conglomerates offer leadership roles to our graduates for organisational transformation adapting to dynamic business environment," IIM-B consultant Aparna Datta told IANS here Wednesday.

Among them, Pranay Jain and Surbhi Garg bagged the plum posts to work as executive assistants to Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani, who is also chairman of the IIM-B's governing board.

HCL selected two graduates to work directly under its founder chairman Shiv Nadar on its novel initiative Entrepreneur@Residence.

From India Inc, the Aditya Birla Group, Tata Administrative Services, Mahindra Group, Hinduja Group, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Cipla, courier firm DTDC and Ranbaxy were noted recruiters this year.

"Of the total, 97 received pre-placement offers, while 98 were given lateral placements as they had 22 months of work experience and 21 others were offered overseas placements by global firms in various locations," Datta said.

Seven graduates opted out of placements to pursue entrepreneurial ventures.

From the financial sector, international banks such as Bank of America, Citibank, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Royal Bank of Scotland, Standard Chartered, HSBC and Swiss Investment bank UBS vied to make attractive offers.

In the consulting domain, Boston Consulting Group made 12 offers, making it a major recruiter this year. Other consulting majors like McKinsey, AT Kearney, Bain and Booz along with BCG made 34 offers in all.

Procter & Gamble made five offers based out of Singapore and India. PepsiCo and Airtel offered international and Indian profiles to their selected graduates.

Other major recruiters which offered marketing roles were HUL, Nestle, Kraft Foods, Asian Paints, GlaxoSmithKline, L'Oreal and Nokia.

Amazon and Microsoft made 11 and eight offers respectively.

In the IT consulting domain, prominent recruiters were Cognizant, IBM, Capgemini, Genpact and Glopore IMS.

"The 2013 final placements were well received and the process was smooth and organised despite the large size of the batch," IIM-B career development services chairperson Sankarshan Basu said.
