Hyderabad: The
National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe into
the Feb 21 terror attack in Hyderabad which killed 17 people, a
statement said Thursday.
The probe agency has registered a case and constituted a Special
Investigation Team (SIT) over the twin blasts in the crowded
Dilsukhnagar area in which over 100 people were injured.
The SIT is headed by a deputy inspector general (DIG) from the NIA
and comprises officers from both the agency and Andhra Pradesh
Police, the agency said in the statement issued here Thursday.
The SIT includes 11 other officers from the NIA and two officers
from the Andhra Pradesh Police.
On the direction of the union home ministry, the agency took over
the investigation of two cases registered after the incident, one
each at by Malakpet Police Station here and Saroornagar police
station in Cyberabad.
Even three weeks after the blasts, the police have not achieved
any breakthrough in the case. Police claimed that images of two
terror suspects who planted the bombs were captured on CCTV
cameras.
The NIA has already questioned some suspects, including two
alleged operatives of banned terror group Indian Mujahideen
currently lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail.
