Ujjain:
Stage is all set for the
three-day 23rd General Body convention of the All India Muslim
Personal Law Board, (AIMPLB), an apex body of Indian Muslims,
starting here at Ujjain, the temple town of Madhya Pradesh, about
250 kms from the state capital Bhopal, on March 22 (Friday).
Over 400 delegates from all over India have started to converge
here at Jamia Arabia Siraj-ul-Uloom, the venue of the convention,
on the outskirts of Ujjain.
They would likely be engaged in
discussions to seek ways and means to fight lacunae in different
Acts like RTE, (Right to Education), Direct Tax Code Bill, Waqf
Amendment Act 2010 along with creating pressure on the Union
government to table the Prevention of Communal Violence Bill 2011
in Indian Parliament for passage to become an Act of law.
The inaugural session of the convention will be held on March 22
(Friday) after Maghrib prayers.
The convention will culminate with
a massive public meeting on March 24 wherein over 100,000 people
are expected to participate.
The highlight of the convention will be the election of a new
president and 40-member executive body of AIMPLB.
The present
incumbent noted Muslim cleric Maulana Syed Mohammad Rabey Hasani
Nadvi, who was unanimously elected president in 2002, has
completed three terms. He is once again likely to be elected
president unanimously.
The election would be held on March
23, the second day of the convention.
