Dubai: The inaugural
Pearl Awards function, organised by Matrix Media and the Kerala
Film Producers Association, was held at West End Park near the
industrial area of Qatari capital Doha.
The park Friday teemed with Indians for the show, which was held
to mark 100 years of Indian cinema and 85 years of Malayalam
cinema, the Gulf Times reported Saturday.
Apart from the awards, a concert and a series of dances by film
personalities from India entertained the crowd.
There were around 50 well-known artistes and other people
associated with the southern film industry in India.
Among those present were popular Malayalam actor Mammootty, singer
K.J. Yesudas, music director Dakshinamoorthy, lyricist O.N.V.
Kurup, and Bollywood director Priyadarshan.
Minister M.K. Muneer of the Indian state of Kerala and former
Kerala minister and actor K.B. Ganesh Kumar were also present.
According to Edavela Babu, secretary of the Association of
Malayalam Movie Artistes, around 40 artistes from the association
performed at the show.
