Sunday November 10, 2013 5:37 PM, IANS

Over 11 lakh people will take an oath together to vote in the upcoming assembly elections in Delhi, at a ceremony organised by the Delhi Election Commission, an official said Sunday.

The oath-taking ceremony will be held Monday at the premises of Delhi Technological University. Voting in Delhi will take place Dec 4.

Almost all residents and college students of the northwest district of the capital are expected to take part in the ceremony.

"The event is part of the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation activities, that focuses on increasing the voter turnout by spreading polling awareness among the people," said a source from the Election Commission.

"Our electoral officers have been trying their best to spread voting awareness among the people. This oath-taking ceremony will make the people mentally resolute of voting in the Delhi assembly elections," the source added.

"India is a democracy and it is immensely important for citizens to vote in elections. They need to realise that if they want a good government, they need to come ahead and vote for their candidates."
