Delivering Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Memorial Lecture at Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organized to mark Maulana Abul Kalam Azad's 125th birth anniversary, Prof. M Saud Alam Qasmi paid rich tribute to him especially his call for the Hindu Muslim unity and his views on national integration.

"The call of Hindu Muslim unity was not a political metaphor of Maulana Azad. It was his sincere view based on religious teachings and demands of humanity", Prof. M Saud Alam Qasmi said on the occasion which is celebrated as National Education Day.

"The British Government adopted the policy of divide and rule, and Maulana Azad perceived it as a factor that divided humanity. Maulana Azad opposed all forces that divided humanity on the basis of religion, caste, creed, politics and geography", he said.

He said that Maulana Azad was an erudite and multifaceted personality who left his impression in the history of India.

"Religion, literature and politics were main factors in the Development of Maulana Azad's personality and he used these principles for the upliftment of society, freedom of the country and unity of mankind", he said.

Stating that divisive forces are still active in the country and creating hatred amongst various sections on the basis of region and religion, Prof Qasmi said, "People should not allow them to destroy the social and secular fabric of the country."

He pointed out that the destiny of the country is shaped in classrooms and it is the duty of the educational institutions to teach and train young minds in a way that they become true messengers of peace and tolerance. "This would be the real tribute to Maulana Azad", he said.
