Muzaffarnagar: A Special Investigation Team has filed its first charge sheet in the Muzaffarnagar riots against 11 accused, including BJP MLAs Suresh Rana and Bhartendu Singh, for allegedly violating prohibitory orders, among other offences.
"The charge sheet was filed in court against the BJP MLAs and 09 other accused under sections 353, 188 and 341 of the IPC, besides seven criminal acts here on Wednesday", SIT sources said.
While section 353 deals with offences like assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty, sections 188 and 341 respectively deal with disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant and punishment for wrongful restraint.
A total of 96 people were killed and more than 43,000 displaced in communal clashes that erupted Sep 7 and lasted for about a week.
About 10,000 people are still living in relief camps.
