Saboo Siddik students win aeronautical competition held in US

Mumbai: In a major achievement for Mumbai and India’s aeronautical strides, and the constant laurel for Muslim students from common families, Team Aerosols of the Anjuman-I-Islam’s M.H. Saboo Siddik College of Engineering at Byculla won the second prize among the teams participating in the Advanced Class, and third prize in the Micro Class of the SAE Design East competition held in March this year.

The event was held between March 13-14, 2015 at Lakeland, Florida in United States – and the boys from Mumbai – Team Aerosouls – were overall first in Asia.

The Event is organized by Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International in co-operation with Lockheed Martin, USA and Dassault Systems, France every year since 1986.

A total of 75 teams from all over the world participate every year for this prestigious event including from IIT Bombay,IIT Kanpur, VIT Vellore.

Team Aerosouls has been one of the most viewed upon performers of this competition for the past three years. Also it is the first time in the history of this competition that any team from India has attained such an award in advanced class design.

While commenting on the achievement of the students, the President of the Anjuman-i-Islam Dr. Zahir I. Kazi appreciated their efforts and applauded them with great sincerity.

“Other students of our college will get inspired from these achievements and they will also showcase their talents to get reward and recognition worldwide,” he said, adding that the team has been performing consistently and the college is proud of them.

Last year the Saboo Siddik Students stood first in Micro Class at International Level and First in Asia in Advanced Class. Also in 2013 we were first in Asia.

Adv. Abbas M. Hetavkar, the Sr. Vice-President and I/c of the College, he Chairman of the College Rafiq Naik and Principal Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed also congratulated the members of Team Aerosouls who had put a lot of efforts throughout the year into the Project.

“It is all their hard work, dedication and full financial and moral support from the management that brought laurel to our college and the country,” said Dr Ahmed.

The team comprised of Saqlain Siddiqui, (Contact No : +918097501653), the Team Mentor, Lead Designer of Data Acquisition system (TADA), Head of Avionics Department, Spokesperson, Marketing Head, Harshad Bhanushali, (contact no.919021615588) the Team Captain, Head of Manufacturing Department, Procurement, Bilal Siddiqui, Member, Marketing, Public Relations, Jaswant Rajput, Member, Aerodynamics, Murtuza Chasmawala, Member, Structures, Suraj Shukla - Member, Structures, SagarKamat, Member, CAD Modelling, Shadab Attar, Member, Aerodynamics, Ajitesh Mahapatra, Member, Aerodynamics, Aun Siddiqui, Member, Structures, Abdul Soif, Member, Manufacturing, Raees Khan, Member, Gear Design Abdul MannanTambe, Member, Manufacturing, Rachitapoojari, Member, Propulsion, Zameer Ansari - Member, Avionics and Waqas Sayed, Member, Avionics.

The team’s stand-alone Data Acquisition System (DAS) code-named TADA (Team Aerosouls Drop Algorithm) impressed the judging panel comprising of engineers from Lockheed Martin, and they strongly recommended that more research should be carried out over this system and an international paper should be published in mean time for same.

The competition comprises of the Regular, Micro and Advance classes as three sections of the SAE Aero Design series. M.H.Saboo Siddik college of engineering participated in the advanced and micro class of the competition.
