Mangaluru:
City police on Tuesday booked a Non Resident Indian (NRI) presently living in a foreign country for allegedly posting on social media derogatory remarks against Police Commissioner S Murugan for imposing a ban on the entry of Muslim preacher Dr Zakir Naik in Karnataka.

NRI Akbar Kudroli allegedly posted derogatory comments against the city police commissioner after he imposed ban on Dr. Zakir Naik from entering Mangaluru city and restricted him from conducting public meetings.

In his post on Facebook, Akbar is said to have flayed the police decision and made derogatory comments against Murugan and his family.

Following opposition by Bajrang Dal and other right wing Hindu organisations, Manaluru city police on Sunday denied the local Muslims necessary permission to organise renowned preacher and award winning Muslim scholar Dr Zakir Naik's programmes in the city.

"Prohibitory order has been issued banning Dr Zakir Naik from entering the Police Commissionerate limits of Mangaluru City and participating in any public meeting/function for a period of 7 days from December 31 to January 6, 2016. We will take a decision on extending the ban later," City Police Commissioner S Murugan said

He added that similar orders will be issued banning the entry of Vishwa Hindu Parishat international working president Pravin Togadia too.

South Karnataka Salafi Movement (SKSM) in association with other organisations were planning to hold convention of Dr Zakir Naik in the city. The District-in-charge Minister Ramanath Rai while supporting Dr Zakir Naik's program in Mangaluru asked the non-Muslims to extend their support to his visit to the city.

The organisers had approached the city police seeking permission for the programme, which was scheduled to be held at Nehru Maidan on January 3.

Following the announcement by the Muslim organisation to organise Dr Zakir Naik's programmes in Magaluru, the Bajrang Dal and other Hindutva organisations in Karnataka had slammed the Congress government in the state for granting permission to Dr. Zakir Naik while imposing a ban on VHP leader Pravin Togadia.

The Bajrang Dal Karnataka South Zone Cordinator Sharan Pumpwell while accusing the government of favouring Muslims and discriminating against the Hindus said, "The State government, which is supporting Dr Zakir Naik’s arrival in Mangaluru, should be questioned against the ban on Dr Praveenbhai Togadia and Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat for the programmes at Bengaluru and Hassan respectively."
