Asaduddin Owaisi]
Pune (Maharashtra): Stating that threats to life and police bans can not silence him and stop him from speaking truth, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi Tuesday criticised the state government for denying permission to his election rallies in Pune.
"They say I can't address a rally here because of threats to my life. If this indeed is a case and the people who want to kill me are here, I challenge them to go ahead and kill me now. For, only my death can silence me, noth threats and police bans", Asaduddin Owaisi said while addressing a rally at Timber Market in Pune.
"Those who killed Gandhi and Kalburgi are the ones who would want to kill me,” he said adding that he will continue to speak truth till the last breath of his life.
“If a member of parliament is not allowed to speak his mind, then there is a serious threat to the Constitutional freedoms guaranteed to us,Owaisi, who represents Hyderabad in Parliament, said adding he had never tried to ignite communal tension and as citizen of the country he has the right to speak.
Owaisi was in Pune to campaign for AIMIM candidates who are contesting Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections. The AIMIM, contesting the Pune civic body elections for the first time, has fielded 25 candidates for the February 21 elections.
Besides Pune, the AIMIM is also contesting civic elections in other parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai, Thane, Nagpur and neighbroing Pimpri Chinchawad, and Owaisi is addressing rallies for party candidates in all these cities.
However the Pune police reportedly denied him permission to hold the rally in Pune saying since his speeches are "provocative in nature", there could be a threat to his life.
"I have been served section 149 CRPC Notice by #Pune Police on my arrival at airport itself. Why similar notices are not served to other leaders like Devendra Fadnavis, Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar or Ajit Pawar", Owaisi, who was later granted permission for his rally, asked.
He said he has been travelling to various parts of the state like Nagpur and Solapur but have never been served such notices.
Owaisi's Pune rally had drawn a huge crowd. Those who were present on stage included Pune AIMIM Chief Zuber Shaikh, Anjum Inamdar, Republican Yuva Morcha leader Rahul Dambde, Milind Ahire and Shailandra Bhosale.
During his more than an hour long rally, Asaduddin Owaisi spoke at lenght on all subjects including the murder of Mohsin Shaikh, Prime Minister Modi's decision to demonetise old 500 and 1000 notes and also criticised Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena.
"The promises made by Modi never fructify. Uddhav Thackeray realised it very late, we knew it from day one,” Owaisi said describing the prime minister a ‘magician of magicians’.
He also said that demonetisation was a futile exercise which did enormous damage to the Indian economy.
Slamming the Congress and NCP, Owaisi said, "The two parties are using the veil of secularism to enjoy power but have done precious little for the minorities or Dalits."
