Aurangabad/Patna: A representative belonging to Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in Aurangabad Municipal Corporation Maharashwas beaten inside the civic headquarters whereas a professor of Motihari Central University Bihar was thrown out of his home for criticising former Prime Minister and senior BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

BJP corporators in Aurangabad on Friday thrashed Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (MIM) member Syed Mateen who opposed a resolution in the municipal corporation to pay tributes to Atal Bihari Vajpayee who died on Thursday.

The assault happened during the general body meeting of the civic body in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, an official said.

After the meeting began, BJP corporator Raju Vaidya tabled a proposal to pay tributes to Vajpayee. MIM corporator Sayed Mateen opposed it, which infuriated the BJP members, who rushed to him and thrashed him in the House, news agency PTI reported.

A video of Mateen being kicked, punched and slapped by the BJP corporators has gone viral on social media and was aired by some TV channels.

Whereas at Motihari Central University in Bihar, Professor Sanjay Kumar was allegedly beaten up by a group of people on Friday for his comments on social media that appeared to criticise former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Professor Sanjay Kumar said he was dragged out from his third-floor flat and the attackers even tried to burn him alive.

The professor was taken to a nearby hospital, and was later referred to Patna's All India Institute of Medical Sciences or AIIMS for advanced medical treatment as he had suffered serious injuries.

Kumar alleged he was not only attacked for his post on social media criticising the former prime minister, but for also raising his voice against the university vice chancellor's decisions in the past, news agency ANI reported.

"The people, who attacked me were all backed by the present VC. I also received a threat call from the attackers, who warned me to not protest against the VC," Kumar alleged.

On Friday, BJP workers had also thrashed Swami Agnivesh who went to the BJP headquarters in New Delhi to pay his last respect to Vajpayee.
