New Delhi: Congress President Rahul Gandhi Friday announced Ashok Gehlot as the new Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Rahul aslo said that Rajasthan Pradesh Congress President Sachin Pilot will be his deputy in the state.
The Congress President had late in the night Thursday announced the appointment of Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia as Chief MInister and Deputy Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh respectively.
Pilot and Scindia - two young faces of the Congress party, are sons of former senior leaders of the party Rajesh Pilot and Madhavrao Scindia. Rajesh Pilot and Madhavrao Scindia both died at very young age.
The appointment followed after the Congress dislodged the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) from power in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
The Congress party has won 99 seats in Rajasthan and 114 seats in Madhya Pradesh. In both the states Congress emerged as the single largest party, but short of a simple majority by just 01 seat.
Congress staked claims to form government in the two states after Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) of Mayawati and Samajwadi Party of Akhilesh Yadav extended "unconditional" support.
"I and my friend Sachin Pilot, and all the party leaders who will join our Cabinet, will work for good governance as per the wishes of our party chief Rahul Gandhi. I would like to thank the people of the state and the voters for supporting us," Gehlot, who had served as Chief Minister of Rajasthan from 1998-2003 and again from 2008 to 2013, tweeted soon after his appointment as the state CM for the third time.
Sachin Patel, youngest parliamentarian at the age of 26, said, "I would like to thank Congress president Rahul Gandhi and other legislators for taking this decision to make Ashok Gehlot Ji the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Together, we will form the government."
"Mera aur Ashok ji ka jadoo puri tarah chal gaya hai. Hum ab sarkar bana rahe hain", he added.
