New Delhi: The Election Commission of India on Thursday announced the schedule of the Assembly elections in three Northeast states in India Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland.
"The assembly election in Tripura will be held on February 18 whereas elections in Meghalaya and Nagaland will be held on February 27, 2018", the Election Commission of India notification said.
The ECI said state elections in the three states, having 60 seats each, will be single phase. The counting of votes in all three states will be held on March 03, 2018 and results will also be declared on the same day.
The terms of the Legislative Assemblies of Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura are due to expire respectively on March 06, March 13 and March 14.
The elections in all the polling stations of the three states will be held using Electronic Machines (EVMs) which will also be installed with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT).
"The First Level Check of EVMs and VVPATs has been completed in the presence of representatives of political parties. A two-stage randomization of EVMs and VVPATs will also be done", the ECI said.
The Model Code of Conduct in all the three poll bound states comes into force with immediate effect.
"All the provisions of the Model Code will apply to the whole of Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura and will be applicable to all candidates, political parties and, the State Government of Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura. The Model Code of Conduct shall also be applicable to the Union Government insofar as announcements/policy decisions pertaining to/for these States are concerned", the poll panel said.
The poll panel also said that all- women Managed Polling Stations’ would be set up in one polling station for each Assembly Constituency to the extent possible with the entire polling staff, including the police and security personnel, being Women.
As per election commission record, there are 18,30,104 voters in Meghalaya, 11,89,264 in Nagaland and 25,69,216 in Tripura.
