Rahul Gandhi Mehul Choksi PNB Scam

New Delhi: Firing fresh salvo against Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's daughter and directly linking her with Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam, Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi on Monday accused that she was on the payroll of Mehul Choksi.

"Arun Jaitlie’s daughter was on the payroll of thief Mehul Choksi (sic)", Rahul Gandhi wrote in a message posted on his Twitter handler.

"Meanwhile, her FM daddy sat on his file and allowed him to flee. She received money from ICICI a/c no: 12170500316", he added.

"It’s sad that media has blacked out this story. The people of India won’t", he said.

Rahul Gandhi's tweet came soon after senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot while addressing media persons at the Congress headquarters said there is a collusion between Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and fugitive jeweller Mehul Choksi.

He said that Jaitley’s daughter Sonali Jaitley and son-in-law Jayesh Bakshi had received Rs. 24 lakh in December 2017 from Gitanjali Gems Limited – a firm owned by Choksi, to save him from legal actions, through their law firm Chambers of Jaitley and Associates.

"However, after Choksi fled the country, Sonali and Jayesh Bakhshi redeposited the money into Choksi’s account almost two months later on February 20", Pilot said.

This is not the first time Sonali Jaitley's name figured in reports linking PNB scam amounting to 12,000 crore rupees of general public. Soon after the scam was exposed, Rahul Gandhi had in March 2018 said Arun Jaitley is silent to protect his lawyer daughter.

Accusing that Jaitley's daughter Sonali was paid a 'large retainer' by the accused just a month before the PNB scam became public, Congress President asked the reason why her firm was not being raided by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team probing the PNB scam.

“It's now revealed that our FM's silence on the PNB SCAM was to protect his lawyer daughter, who was paid a large retainer by the accused just a month before the SCAM became public. When other law firms of the accused have been raided by the CBI, why not hers? (sic)”, Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet on March 12, 2018.
