Mumbai: Hundreds of thousands of students and their supporters are flooding Twitter with messages, video clips and memes to protest MHRD and UGC decision to go ahead with the university exams amid coronavirus scare.
"Conduct the exam and kill us... or stop exam to save us", a netizen wrote on the microblogging site. "Knoweldge important, not marks and score", wrote another user askinge th Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) and University Grants Commission (UGC) to reconsider their decision announced Tuesday.
The HRD ministry while announcing the new UGC Guidelines to conduct the final year exams Tuesday said it believes that students' performance in university examinations helps them get admission to the higher educational institutions, providing scholarships and awards and getting better jobs. Hence, the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the HRD ministry rejected the demand to cancel the examinations.
"Better performance in examinations gives students more confidence and satisfaction and also ensures qualification, lifetime reliability and wide global acceptance", HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal said.
The decision has however led to another round of protest by the students who were earlier campaigning for cancellation of all exams in the wake of Coronavirus pandemic. Sample some of messages posted under the hash tag #SayNoToUGCGuidelines which is among the top trends on Twitter today.
