#StudentLivesMatter trends on Twitter as universities prepare for Final Year Exams

#StudentLivesMatter started on the lines of #BlackLivesMatter has so far recieved response from more than 104,000 users

Final Year Exam 2020 Cancelled

Mumbai: From India's Northeast to South, everywhere and in every state, students are staring at uncertain future, and even risk to their life, ever since universities have announced that they are preparing to hold the Final Year Exams later this month.

Most of the universities in India have decided to promote the 1st and 2nd year students without conducting exams and based on their internal assessment. The universities have however decided to conduct the exam for Final Year Students.

Maharashtra is an exception because along with 1st and 2nd year exams, the state has also cancelled the Final Year Exams in the wake of Covid-19 epidemic. Amity University too has decided to cancel all exams.

Universities in other states including Delhi University (DU), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Manipal University, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) and Osmania University in Hyderabad, Gujarat Technical University (GTU), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and others have decided to go ahead with the final year exams.

Union Human Resource Development Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal has also said that while exams for first and second year students could be replaced by internal evaluation, exams for final year students would “definitely happen.”

The decision has shocked the students and they are using various ways including social media to raise their demand to cancel final year exams.

In fact, #StudentLivesMatter is trending on Twitter with messages, videos and memes flooding the microblogging social media site ever since Saturday. The campaign started on the lines of #BlackLivesMatter has so far recieved response from more than 104,000 users.

"We want Degree Certificate", not "Death Certificate", one user wrote raising concerns over holding the final year exam amid Coronavirus Epidemic.
