CBC Interview gave a
vision to Mollywood team |
|
Shaikh
Nasir who has worked as a
Director, Cameraman and Media Editor for over 90% of the films that
have been produced in Malegaon, found it very interesting when he
himself came in front of the lenses. Not only this, the visit by CBC
crews gave him a vision for making the films. “Till now we have
concentrated only on providing some moments of laughter for the poor
labors in Malegaon, who do not find anything in this town for
freak-out after working extensively for the whole day", says Shaikh
Nasir.

Malegaon: After
making the news in print and electronic media over the years at
National level, the emerging film industry in Malegaon, popularly
known as MOLLYWOOD in accordance with Hollywood and Bollywood, is
now all set to hit the International headlines. The credit for this
goes to Canada Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) which had sent a
five-member team led by Jacqueline Corkery recently to Malegaon as
part of their project entitled as “India Reborn”.
“India, a Great Culture is fast
emerging as a Giant Economy. This makes the world keen not only to
know about the big Indian Metros, but also to know about the
real-rural life of the country”, Jacquie said while speaking
exclusively to ummid.com and emphasized, “The real India and real
Indians! They are all very interesting for the people world over.”
“And for doing this”, Jacquie
who is working as a Director explained, “Canada Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) is making a
Documentary on various aspects in India. Mainly, we will be focusing
on Economy, Politics, Food & Agriculture and Entertainment.
Different teams are working in different parts of the country on
these topics. I am taking care of the Entertainment part.”
When asked, why is their focus on
Malegaon - a depleted and neglected town - Jacquie said, “That’s what we wanted to see. With no active
supports from the Government, the way the town is living up to the
expectation is really amazing. Hours of power disruptions, more than
hundred years of power looms, poor weavers laboring hard for a
miserable amount and still very humorous and jolly, caring damn
about anything. It’s all very fascinating.”

“Same is the case with the “Film
Industry” in Malegaon”, Jacquie came right to her topic. “Despite
lack of technological savoir faire, the way these youngsters have
produced so many films is really surprising. Though remakes, the end
results of their films are really astonishing”, Jacquie showered
the praise as Nasir Shaikh, the mastermind behind SN Films and the man
who has directed many films produced in the town, sat near her
blushing.
The visit provided moments to rejoice
for all the “Local Heroes” who had worked in many “re-makes” like
Malegaon ke Sholay, Malegaon ki Lagaan and other hits.
And though they had always earned praise from Bollywood stalwarts
like Anupam Kher, Raj Babbar and others, meeting the International
media was an experience of its own kind.
Local artists and film producers have
also learnt a lesson or two from the CBC team's visit to Malegaon. “After CBC
Interview when we faced several questions on our motives behind
making the films, the idea of adding useful messages along with the
comedy that was in our minds and was under a very premature stage
got developed", says Shaikh Nasir.
Once the idea was developed, Nasir
started implementing it right away. And if his latest film on
promoting Polio dose in Malegaon in association with the local
Municipal Corporation - that has helped in increasing the tally of the
children taking the dose by over 5000 in numbers - is any indication,
he has succeeded in his mission.
Encouraged, he is now planning to make a film entitled as “Malegaon
ka Tana Bana” focusing communal harmony.
