Women Reservation Bill: All party meet fails to end impasse
New Delhi: Concerted efforts to increase representation of women in government jobs and early passage of the Women's Reservation Bill were among the four steps the Government had proposed for increasing the representation of women as part of its 100-day Action Plan, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
Minister for Women and Child Development Krishna Tirath said in a written reply that the Government also proposed constitutional amendment to provide 50 per cent reservation for women in panchayats and urban local bodies and setting up of a National Mission on Empowerment of Women for implementation of women centric programmes in mission mode to achieve better coordination.
She said for increasing representation of women in government jobs, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, has issued instructions that all recruitment advertisements should carry a prominent message to encourage women candidates.
She added that a circular has been issued and posted on the website of DoPT for raising awareness about existing facilities to women employees and instructions have been issued for representation of at least one woman member in Selection Committees.
The existing provisions for postings of husband and wife in the same station have been reviewed, revised and consolidated.
