Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil
Mumbai: Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil stunned the state legislative Assembly tonight by declaring he would tender his resignation from the ministry as well as membership of the House if the allegations about his meeting Hasan Ali, accused in the multi-crore tax scam, are proved.
The matter was raised in the House by BJP's Devendra Fadanavees, who said a CD, being aired on TV channels, alleged that Patil was present at a five-star hotel, along with former Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, Ahmed Patel, political secretary of AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Hasan Gafoor. At the meeting, it was decided to make Gafoor as the police commissioner of Mumbai.
An emotional Patil refuted the charges and said he would resign from the Ministry if the charges are proved.
''If there is an iota of truth in the allegations, I will resign from the ministry and also from the membership of the House,'' he thundered.
Patil said he would be ordering a CID inquiry into the alleged CD and how it was released to the media.
He aslo said some disgruntled policemen were involved in this.
