Lucknow: Tension prevailed in a town in Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli district Wednesday after a clash between two communities that left at least 12 people injured, police said.
An altercation took place between boys of two communities while they were playing cricket in Jais town in Rae Bareli, some 80 km from here.
The quarrel snowballed as adults from both the communities joined in and resorted to arson and vandalism, an official said.
“Heavy security has been deployed in the area following the clash,” Superintendent of Police P.K. Mishra told reporters in Rae Bareli.
“The situation is still tense, but under control. No person was seriously injured during the clash,” he added.
According to police sources, some 25 people from both the communities were detained for their alleged involvement in the clash.
