New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Friday remembered victims of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bomb on its 65th anniversary.
Making a reference in the Lok Sabha, Speaker Meira Kumar said: "This manmade catastrophe has wreaked unimaginable havoc and misery on generations of humankind. Persons living in the region are still suffering from the after effects of the nuclear radiation caused by these bombings," she added.
The house stood in silence in memory of the victims.
It was on the evening of August 6, 1945, that the US dropped the world's first atomic bomb over Hiroshima city, causing an estimated 166,000 deaths over the subsequent four months.
The Nagasaki bombing took place three days later, before the Japanese announced its surrender to Allied Powers on August 15, bringing to an end the Second World War. (ANI)
