Srinagar: Students in Jammu and Kashmir took out a candle light procession and prayed for the victims of flash floods that devastated the Leh region of the state. The students, all of them hailing from Ladakh, participated in the event in Jammu city.
"Flood in Leh has devastated the town. We have taken out this peace march to pray for the souls who died in this," said Nowang Dorje, a student.
Army, Air Force and paramilitary personnel have been carrying out rescue operations and providing relief to the people in Leh after the region was ravaged by a sudden cloudburst resulting in flash floods on Friday.
Around 400 people are reportedly missing, and the foreign ministry believes some foreign tourists could be among those affected.
The cloudburst caused extensive damage in the Leh region where houses are traditionally built with mud. Telephone towers and government buildings have also been flattened. (ANI)
