Bangalore: Karnataka Urdu Academy in association with few other academies in India has decided to organise an International Conference on Urdu language in December 2010.
Delegates from more than 35 countries are expected to attend the conference that will also have a 7-day Urdu Festival showcasing models highlighting Urdu culture and art.
Owing to the importance and the scope that the conference has, a state delegation led by former Karnataka Chief Minister N Dharam Singh and Chairman Karnataka Urdu Academy Khalil Mamoon met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh who promised to extend all supports from the government.
Dr. Manmohan Singh, who himself is a proficient Urdu speaker and fond of the language, accepted the organisers’ request to inaugurate the Conference.
While elaborating the details of the conference, N Dharam Singh said, since Urdu is widely spoken in the Indian subcontinent and regarded as the ‘language of integration, peace and unity’, the Conference will promote the message of harmony, peace and integration in the entire region.
According to the Member of Karnataka Urdu Academy, Sayyad Rauf Qadri, the Prime Minister not only accepted their invitation but, looking at the importance of the Conference, he also assured all kind of supports from the centre.
Chairman of the Karnataka Urdu Academy, Khalil Mamoon claims that the entire program is first of its kind in the subcontinent and hence the Academy is taking all efforts to make it a memorable event.
