Lucknow: In yet another row over fatwa, the All India Muslim Women Personal Law Board (AIMWPLB) on Sunday decried the recent fatwa issued by Darul Uloom, Deoband restricting Muslim women from becoming qazi.
Reacting to the development, President, AIMWPLB, Shaista Amber stated that appointing Muslim women as qazi on the basis of their ability is good move and will send strong message in the community.
"The harassed women can relate easily with a female qazi and can narrate their tale of distress more conveniently. It is difficult and at times not decent for a woman to discuss everything in detail with a male Muslim qazi," said Amber on Sunday at Lucknow.
She also stated that women can perform their duty more honestly and without being partial to anybody.
"They will abide by the guidelines laid down in the religion and will not just listen to one side of the story. It is also the basic tenet of Islam to educate the girl child and any move in form of a fatwa denying their rights is un-Islamic and also against the natural justice," she remarked.
As per Islamic Shariah, Muslims take the help of qazis deputed in various districts for settling their issues. They perform their task from Darul Qaza in various districts. These qazis act as per the Shariah and the cases are mostly related to women harassment, talaq and property dispute among the families.
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) in its recent convocation in March at Lucknow has advocated the establishment of more such Darul Qaza for providing speedy relief to the Muslims as per their religion.
Interestingly, the AIMPLB, the apex body acting as custodian of personal laws of Muslims in India, too has favoured Muslim emancipation and accorded representation to Muslim women in its executive body.
