Abu Dhabi: A telethon organised in the UAE to raise funds for flood-affected people in Pakistan has collected 43 million dirhams (about $11 million), organisers said Friday.

The three-day telethon, a TV programme to raise funds for charity, was launched by UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) Thursday.

During the program appeals were made to make donations by text messages or in person at RCA branches.

On first day, 25 million dirhams were collected.

Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority has said that it immediately needs boats, tents, blankets, power generators, medicines and non-Perishable food items, among others.
